On the first Saturday of October, we held our first sketching event, following last autumn’s painting session, at Berlin’s Lustgarten. We kicked off with an intro round, and our skilled urban sketcher Adrian gave a live demo to inspire everyone. Participants, ranging from beginners to experienced artists, captured the autumn atmosphere while enjoying tea and sketching in the peaceful surroundings. Paint and Wine Day: A Summer Art Celebration

At the "Paint and Wine Day" in Schlossgarten Charlottenburg, we began with an inspirational walk through the park, soaking in the summer atmosphere. Our first exercise was to paint our wine glasses on paper cups, getting us into the creative spirit. Then, we captured our impressions of the park on canvas while enjoying some music. The event concluded with a show & tell session, where we presented and discussed our artworks, sharing our unique perspectives.

Grill and Chill on the Seas of Berlin

For the first time, our group rented a wooden raft and explored the lake and river landscapes in the southeastern part of Berlin, Treptow-Köpenick. We saw Little Venice, cruised on the Müggelsee, and even experienced a mini storm. Everyone got a chance to steer the raft, and we also grilled, danced Bachata, and managed to get through a minor engine failure. In the end, we arrived safely and happy back at the harbor.

On the last Saturday in July, we gathered at the Renaissance-Theater for an Oktoberfest-themed evening. We started with an introduction about Munich's famous Oktoberfest and shared our experiences in the Bierzelt. 🍺 The theater, decorated with Bavarian flair, set the stage for a colorful, humorous musical retelling Ludwig I of Bavaria and Princess Therese's love story. 🎭 The diverse cast delivered a captivating performance. We ended the night with exclusive backstage insights and discussions with the crew.  

Body & Balance: Fitness and Stand-Up Paddle Adventure

On this sunny Sunday in July, we gathered at the historic Funkhaus Berlin for a vibrant event. We started with invigorating fitness exercises amidst the iconic venue, setting the tone for the day. Then, we transitioned to an exciting stand-up paddleboarding adventure along the Spree, gliding through tranquil waters with stunning views. 🏞️ The day concluded with a delightful picnic featuring Italian pizza, enjoyed in the warm glow of the summer sunset with Mediterranean vibes. 🍕🌅 It was a perfect blend of fitness and relaxation.

West Havelland Dark Sky Trip 2024

Last weekend, we escaped the urban jungle for 2.5 days and took a one-hour train ride from Berlin to West Havelland's Dark Sky Reserve. We cycled through serene landscapes, played board games, and enjoyed a relaxing boat tour. At night, we marveled at the starry skies, free from light pollution, which made for an unforgettable stargazing experience. This trip offered the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, creating lasting memories under the breathtaking night skies.

Waterway Wonders: Canoeing Through the Spree Forest

We enjoyed a serene journey through the Spree Delta, starting in Berlin and heading to the picturesque Luebbenau. As we paddled along the peaceful waterways, we admired lush forests and charming villages. 🏡 Midway, we took a refreshing break at the Wotschofska restaurant, savoring traditional Spreewald gherkins. 🥒 The Spree Forest, with its unique network of channels and rich biodiversity, added to the beauty of our adventure. We listened to music, had inspiring conversations in this idyllic setting, and even played a little sea battle. 🚣‍♂️

Am Samstag lud der 11. JUNGE SALON zu einem Abend voller Humor und Satire ein. Aufgeführt wurde „KALTER WEISSER MANN“ von Dietmar Jacobs und Moritz Netenjakob (u. a. Stromberg, Ladykracher, Pastewka). Im Mittelpunkt stand die turbulente Trauerfeier für den verstorbenen Firmenpatriarchen Gernot Steinfels, die aufgrund eines Gendern-Fehlers im Chaos endet. Nach der Aufführung sprachen wir mit Inspizientin Nina sowie den Schauspieler:innen Markus Gertken und Leonie Krieg über das Theaterstück und ihre persönlichen Meinungen. Es war ein wunderbarer Abend, der unsere Lachmuskeln strapazierte und zum Nachdenken über soziale Umgangsformen anregte. 

Roses and Rosé: A Spring Art Celebration

Our third seasonal painting event celebrated the arrival of spring by drawing roses in Berlin's Tiergarten while enjoying sips of rosé. We initially wanted to do it in the rose garden in Tiergarten, but there were no roses, so we went to the English Garden where there were more flowers. After our summer and autumn sessions, we continued to explore the artistic expression of spring's blossoms. We created beautiful rose paintings, enjoyed each other's company, and the best painters received rose-themed gifts like cream, a rose bouquet, and a bottle of good rosé.

Artful Africa: A Museum Experience with Culinary Delights 

We experienced a memorable Sunday of cultural discovery and gastronomic joys at the African Art Museum within the historical Humboldt Forum, diving deep into African heritage through art and cuisine. We marveled at historical African treasures—wooden figures and masks from Cameroon, ivory objects, and Namibian traditional attire. Our journey continued at Afropot African Cuisine in Potsdamer Platz, savoring the authentic flavors of West Africa, particularly traditional Ghanaian dishes. 🍛🎨🌍

River Walks and Forest Talks: A Hike to Nonnenfliess

In April, we embarked on a magical 4-hour, 18 km hike through Nonnenfliess, nestled in Barnim, Brandenburg, just a 40 min train ride from Berlin 🌿🚂. We discovered signs of beavers at work in the trees and their dams across the rivers 🌲🦫. Strolling along the meandering river, shaped by ancient glaciers, we were surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The stories of the Lisenkreuz added a layer of mystique to our journey along the river's beautifully carved valley.

Die 10. Ausgabe unseres JUNGEN SALONS im Renaissance-Theater bot mit „STAHLTIER. Ein Exorzismus in memoriam Willy Zielke“ eine fesselnde Reise durch die dunklen Gänge der politischen Intrigen, in denen die Kunst der Machtspiele zum Opfer fiel. Nach der Aufführung standen wir auf der Bühne, während die Hauptdarsteller/in, Jacqueline Macaulay und Wolfram Koch, im Publikum Platz nahmen. In dieser umgekehrten Rolle führten wir aufschlussreiche Gespräche über Macht, Kunst und Moral. Ein Abend, der zum Nachdenken anregte und die Grenzen zwischen Bühne und Zuschauerraum verschwimmen ließ.

Starry Nights and Film Lights: From the Planetarium to the Pub 🌌🎬

We began our gathering at the Zeiss Planetarium with a movie melody quiz, offering licorice as film roll-themed prizes. The event continued with a celestial symphony of cinematic music, from "Amelie" to "Harry Potter," under the planetarium's dome. Our cosmic journey concluded with a bohemian-style celebration at a movie-inspired café, where we enjoyed beers amidst cinema-themed decor.

Canvas and Cocktails: A Day Full of Impressionism🎨🍸

Yesterday, we explored the Museum Barberini in Potsdam, marveling at masterpieces by Monet, Signac, Edward Munch, and others, showcasing Impressionism and Expressionism in a historical palace. Tasked with the imaginative challenge of jumping into a painting, we pondered which masterpiece we'd dive into for our first selfie, enriching our experience. Later, at the Van Gogh Bar in Berlin's Charlottenburg, surrounded by Van Gogh-inspired decor, we enjoyed exclusive drinks, sharing our unique insights and choices from the museum's immersive task.

Industrial Inspiration: Contemporary Art Discovery at KINDL 🎨🍻

In early March, we dived into Berlin's art world at KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art in Neukölln's old brewery 🎨. Emma Talbot's installation, addressing existential themes like crisis, nature, and consciousness on massive silk hangings, left us in awe. At Café Babette, we had a mini photo session and discussed our impressions, sharing laughs over Rollberg beer or coffee 🍻☕📸. Feeling inspired, we walked to the municpal gallery at Koernerpark for more contemporary artistic discoveries 🖼️🚶.

Die 9. Ausgabe unseres JUNGEN SALONS war wieder ein unvergesslicher Abend im Renaissance-Theater Berlin 🎭. Dieses Mal erlebten wir im Theaterstück „Extrawurst“ die hitzigen Debatten über einen neuen Grill in einem deutschen Tennisclub. Dieses von Kritikern gelobte Stück, geschaffen von den Drehbuchautoren hinter „Stromberg“ und „Die Wochenshow“, brachte uns Lachen und Tiefgang. Nach der Aufführung haben wir uns Backstage und Onstage mit der Inspizientin und Souffleuse ausgetauscht. Ein Gespräch über kulturelle Unterschiede und gesellschaftliche Fragen, die das Stück aufwarf rundete den Theaterabend ab.

We savored a culturally flavorful Sunday at Humboldt Forum's Asian Art Museum. Our journey through diverse Asian religious art exhibitions involved a task to find an art object that made us look twice👀. From the tranquil Japanese Tea House 🍵 to the South Asia's religious traditions, we were immersed in awe. Post-adventure, we dished over our mesmerizing experiences at an Asian fusion restaurant🥢, delighting in culinary and artistic impressions.🍱🎨

Bites of History: East German Gastronomy and Museum Experience

End of January we took a nostalgic trip through time 🕰️, immersing ourselves in the unique experience of East Germany's 70s and 80s era. The Volkskammer restaurant 🍽️ treated us to authentic decor and classic East German dishes. At the DDR Museum, we explored the immersive exhibit 🏛️, gaining insights into everyday life and Stasi surveillance. From the detailed Plattenbau flat to the "Palace of the Republic" model, we discovered the layers of East German history 📚. We concluded our event with an engaging quiz to test our knowledge! 🤓📝

New Year's Eve Trip to Brandenburg

For New Year's Eve 2023/24, we enjoyed a four-day celebration on the outskirts of Brandenburg. A highlight was the Murder Mystery Dinner, where we donned costumes and solved a thrilling mystery. Our time included discussing resolutions for the upcoming year, engaging in cozy board games, and enjoying movie nights. Together, we cooked delicious meals and had fun singing karaoke. The retreat also featured serene nature walks in Brandenburg's beautiful landscape, making it a memorable way to usher in 2024.

Glitter & (No) Glide: Winter Wonderland Vibes

During yesterday's outing in Berlin, we began at the Christmas market near Gedächtniskirche, savoring traditional dishes. Later, we spontaneously opted for window shopping at KaDeWe, immersing ourselves in the festive spirit. Ice skating was skipped for holiday vibes and city charm!🎄🛍️🌟

X-Mas Party Run with Midnight Runners

Midnight Runners, a global running community, is more than just running; it's about creating communities through high-energy fitness events. On this December Saturday, we participated in the Midnight Runners Community Berlin's X-Mas Party Run. It proved to be a wonderful experience with Christmas songs, a 7 km bootcamp-style run with Christmas hats, and an energetic party afterwards.

Die 8. Ausgabe unseres JUNGEN SALONS war wieder ein unvergesslicher Abend im Renaissance-Theater Berlin 🎭. Das Stück „Die Weihnachtsfeier – In der Filiale brennt noch Licht“ zeigte die Weihnachtszeit in einem neuen Licht – Spannung und Drama in einer Bankfiliale während der Weihnachtsfeier 🎄. Kolleg:innen wurden zu Rivalen, Geheimnisse kamen ans Licht, und es entstand ein Rätsel um verschwundene 2,5 Mio Euro 💰. Vor der Aufführung trafen wir uns für eine Vorstellungsrunde, und diskutierten über unsere eigenen Erfahrungen mit betrieblichen Weihnachtsfeiern. Danach durften wir einen exklusiven Blick hinter die Bühne werfen. Es war wieder ein Abend voller Theatermagie und wir freuen uns bereits auf die nächste Ausgabe im neuen Jahr!

Yesterday we ventured into a vibrant journey into Japanese history and culture at Berlin's Samurai Museum. Witnessed Japan's legendary fighters through multimedia installations, delved into the intricacies of the samurai era, and experienced captivating performances. Wrapped up the day with engaging discussions at a nearby Japanese restaurant, indulging in delicious sushi. It was an enriching afternoon of immersive and innovative cultural exploration in the heart of Berlin.

Alte Nationalgalerie: From Classics to Moderns

On the first Sunday of October, we visited Berlin's Alte Nationalgalerie 🏛️ and explored its amazing collection of art from various periods. We also saw a temporary exhibit called "Secessionen: Klimt, Stuck, Liebermann," and compared art scenes in Munich, Vienna, and Berlin 🌍. We talked about how these artists might view today's social media filters 🤳 and shared our favorite pieces, deepening our grasp of art's role today 🎨.

In early September, our cultural excursion resumed at the Martin-Gropius-Bau. Given that there were merely a handful of exhibits during the summer hiatus, we subsequently shifted to the Museum of Communication. 📞 There, we immersed ourselves in the multifaceted realm of communication, investigating various mediums from antiquity to the modern era 💬. Remarkably, we were entranced by a scarce $8 million Mauritius postage stamp 💌. To wrap up, we convened at a restaurant, where we engaged in conversations and exchanged our thoughts on the exhibits that struck a chord with us 🍽.

German Politics and Plates: Federal Chancellery Tour and Restaurant Revelry

We invited young minds for an expedition into German politics. The event started with a quiz about German politics, followed by an exclusive tour of the Federal Chancellery. Participants received merchandise from the chancellery, including an autograph from the current chancellor. After the tour, we gathered at a German cuisine restaurant to discuss our relationship to politics. It was a unique opportunity to explore German politics, engage in lively discussions, and enjoy local cuisine together.

Romanian Rhapsody: Summer's Call to Adventure

In August, we journeyed through Romania's summer magic. Beginning in lively Bucharest, we delighted in authentic Romanian dishes. Konstanza's shores invited us for Black Sea swims and sunbathing. Aboard a night train, we reached Cluj-Napoca, exploring its charm, trekking in the breathtaking Cheile Turzii reserve, and descending into Salina Turda's salt mine depths. Nine days indelible memories with the best company!

Modern Art Moments – A Day at Hamburger Bahnhof

In August, we delved into the world of contemporary art at Berlin's Hamburger Bahnhof, where we were fascinated by a blend of Pop Art, Minimalism, and Photography, specifically enjoying the works of Fred Sandback and Christina Quarles. We explored the temporary exhibition "Devouring Lovers" by Eva Fàbregas, which offered a unique and tactile spatial experience. Afterward, we exchanged reflections and insights at a nearby café, rounding off a stimulating artistic adventure.

AI Tools & Waffles – The Brussels Workation

End of July, our members from the Netherlands, Germany, and France converged in Brussels for a week-long workation. Representing fields like urban planning, IT consulting, economics research, and fintech, our days blended work and exploration. Mornings were for work, afternoons for AI workshops, and evenings for city adventures. We visited the Atomium, savored waffles, fries, and chocolate, and toured Antwerp's diamond museum. The blend of business, learning, and leisure crafted a week of skills, laughter, and lasting memories.

Embarking on a global expedition within Berlin, we started our adventure with a breathtaking cable car ride offering panoramic vistas of the park. We then explored mesmerizing international theme gardens, immersing ourselves in diverse landscapes, from the elegance of Japanese tea houses to the verdant Italian Renaissance Garden.
Our international picnic tantalized our taste buds with global cuisine, complete with foodie snaps! The fun didn't stop there - we took on the challenge of capturing "the most garden selfie". Concluding our adventure, we took one last cable car ride, cherishing the unforgettable memories made.

On this Saturday, we escaped Berlin's urban hustle to reconnect with nature at Beelitz Barefoot Park. Our adventure began with a scenic train ride from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to Beelitz-Heilstätten. On reaching, we freed our feet to explore the park's diverse landscapes, immersing our senses in everything from soft grass to sandy paths.

Zum Stück: Hochmair brachte Werthers Geschichte mit Originaltext und moderner Perspektive auf die Bühne, schaffte eine Mischung aus Lesung, Monodrama und Performance. Ein berühmter literarischer Ego-Trip, der auch in Zeiten von Facebook und Twitter nichts von seiner Intensität verloren hat.

An diesem Sonntag ist es uns gelungen, in den Zauber der herbstlichen Jahreszeit einzutauchen. After our visit to the museum, we had dinner nearby to discuss our impressions and what we had learned!

This Sunday, we visited the "Bode Museum" in Berlin to explore its first-class sculpture collection, an area where the museum truly excels. The Spree Delta, close to Berlin, is a haven for canoe enthusiasts and a perfect way to take advantage of our 9-Euro monthly public transport ticket! On a beautiful summer day, we embarked on a one-hour train ride from Berlin to Luebbenau, known as the gateway to the Spree Forest.
In this charming town, we rented canoes and began navigating a labyrinth of waterways through picturesque forests, meadows, and villages. During our lunch break, we savored traditional Spreewald gherkins at the Froschkönig restaurant.

This Sunday, we visited the "Neue Nationalgalerie," one of Berlin's most renowned cultural venues, immersing ourselves in the world of the avant-garde. We experienced works of Expressionism, Cubism, and Dada. The exhibition addressed contemporary topics such as the relationship between Expressionism and Colonialism and the emancipation of women in the Weimar Republic. After the museum, we enjoyed ice cream and took a walk in the Park at Gleisdreieck nearby, where we exchanged thoughts on our impressions and what we had learned.

Near or far, inside or outside, crooked or straight? At the Illuseum Berlin, we witnessed things that are usually beyond our perception. In the upside-down room, the world seemed topsy-turvy, in the Ames room, large objects appeared tiny, and walking through the Vortex Tunnel threw off our sense of balance. In this event, we explored various nutrition trends through a virtual buffet, discussed different dietary concepts, and enjoyed a meal together.

Punkt um 20.22 Uhr hat das Event mit einem Quiz aus 22 Fragen rundum die Ziffer 2 bzw. Zahl 22 begonnen. Im oben beschriebenen Moment haben wir schließlich in fast 22 Sprachen die Zahl 22 gesagt! Die nächste Feier dieser Art ist für das Jahr 2222 geplant.

Mitte Oktober sind wir erneut unseren tristen Großstadtalltagen in die hessische Natur entflohen. Niedergelassen im idyllischen Amönau, haben wir an diesem Herbstwochenende gemeinsam gekocht – auch eine herbstliche Kürbissuppe – und gegrillt, Spiele gespielt, eine große Wanderung gemacht und uns (erfolglos) an dem Metallbaukasten eines Gabelstaplers versucht. Getreu unserer Affinität für kindische Aktivitäten haben wir außerdem Laternen gebastelt und einen Nachtspaziergang zum nahe gelegenen Rapunzelturm unternommen.

Week Trip to Kyiv and the Carpathians

End of August, we traveled to Ukraine to visit our friend Mila in Kyiv. With her local knowledge, she gave us an understanding of the rich history, gastronomy, and culture of the mother of Russian cities. In the second part of our vacation, we jumped all together into an old night train that brought us to the Western part of the country. In the Carpathian Mountains, we settled down in the city of Yaremche. From there, we even climbed to the highest point of Ukraine, the Hoverla mountain.

In Pandemiezeiten wird sogar ein solch analoges vor Ort-Erlebnis wie das des Escape-Rooms digital angeboten und so haben wir in kleineren Gruppen zehn Rätsel gelöst. Genauer gesagt hat jedes Team versucht, 10 Träume zu rekonstruieren, denn die Erinnerungen eines jeden Einzelnen sind nur bruchstückhaft und nur gemeinsam konnten die Teams sich an ihre Träume erinnern.

This year’s February Deep Talk was dedicated to ecology as we discussed our lifestyles through the prism of ecological footprints. This time, participants from Russia, Italy, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, and the Netherlands met in order to exchange views and facts regarding ecological footprints of their food habits, mobility behavior, as well as leisure activities. Ecological activism, ecological footprint calculators, and secondhand shops were also the subject of conversation.

Deep Talk—Our Use of Social Media

There is barely one thing that consumes so much of our generation’s leisure time as social media does. Therefore, we thought it would make sense to talk about our relationship with it. In the event’s first part, everybody presented their favorite social media apps, explained for how long they use them every day, and, of course, why they do so. In the second part, we discussed different facets of social media, including its impact on human relationships, its role in globalization, and others.

Friends of the Built Environment

City-building games enable everybody to make their construction dreams come true. What’s more is that they simulate detailed urban development processes. We split our group into three teams and each group built its own city. In the end, Monopolis, Rioburg, and Los Vegas were rated based on sustainability factors, aesthetics of urban design, transportation flows, unemployment rate, and the number of inhabitants and their happiness. Guess what: Monopolis won!

Online-Krimidinner - Mord beim Pokerturnier

Bei diesem Online-Krimidinner haben wir einen Mordfall aufgeklärt, der sich tragischerweise in einem Casino während des weltgrößten Pokerturniers zugetragen hat. Zugegebenermaßen war es keine einfache Herausforderung, in dem Wust an Geldmachenschaften, Liebeleien und dem Pokerspiel, durchzublicken, um den Tathergang zu rekonstruieren, aber einige von uns konnten die Täterin letztlich ausfindig machen!

Picture this: you are about to enter the elevator and, all of a sudden, you meet a world-famous movie director who complains about running out of ideas. It is now your task to convince them within 45 seconds which kind of movie they should shoot using their infinite resources. Aside from the fact that some of us evaluated this task to be more of an ice builder than an icebreaker, we continued with little plot presentations of our favorite movies and discussed what we think about them. We discussed Zootopia, The Lord of the Rings, Little Women, Mr. Nobody, The Imitation Game, and others.

We played a crime dinner game called Gatsby’s Last Secret which made us delve into the New York of the Roaring Twenties. In this story, Jay Gatsby who is the owner of a well-attended mansion and host of showy parties is found murdered. The crime dinner’s story refers to the fictional character of the novel The Great Gatsby, published in 1925 by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Following our Deep Talk on wisdom quotes, we dived deep this time into a conversation about which hobbies and activities enrich our lives. From blacksmithing and swinging to traveling and visiting art museums, our participants showed pictures of these activities and explained to each other why they represent quality time to them. Along with the first Deep Talk on our favorite quotes, this appeared to be a solid foundation to get to know each other’s personalities more profoundly.

Online Crime Dinner Game

We played a crime dinner game called Backstage online. Its theme was that a dazzling superstar Miss Loco delivers a grandiose show, but later that evening, her manager is found murdered in the backstage area. Until the police arrive, all attendants are locked in the backstage area by the security and are trying to solve the case.

Becoming Lost in the Vastness of Our Universe

Most people associate their visits to the planetarium and the respective virtual navigation through the universe, with their childhood. Is there any reason that should prevent us from experiencing the astonishing wow moments as adults? No sooner said than done! We headed off to Muenster even with a cycling tour through the beautiful autumn scenery of the city which is a cycle-friendly and historic university town in Germany.

Die wagemutige Idee unseres ersten Sommerlichen Spaßwochenendes war es, in einer idyllischen Unterkunft im Hessi-schen Bergland, unseren tristen Großstadtalltagen für drei Tage zu entfliehen. Mit Student:innen aus acht unterschiedlichen Bundesländern haben wir weit abseits vom Großstadttrubel Sportspiele gespielt, gebadet, eine Wanderung unternommen, gemeinsam gekocht, ein Lagerfeuer gemacht und den Sternenhimmel bewundert.

Watching Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction

One could argue that barely a youn person in the Western world is not familiar with the structure of this television show. In its episodes, the moderator Jonathan Frakes used to lead the audience through five mysterious stories and invited the viewers after each story to guess whether it was true or made up. Futurium in Berlin

The Futurium museum addresses the overarching question of how we want to live in the future, through highly interactive exhibitions, events, and workshops. Visitors are invited to explore their prospective relationships to nature, technology as well as humanity. We even got wristbands to vote for our preferred scenarios throughout the exhibition. At the end of our visit, we were given a summary of our individual preferred outlook toward the future world.

Exploring the Industrial Age

The Saxon Museum of Industry reminds of Chemnitz’ essential contributions to the Industrial Revolution in Germany and offers interactive events and workshops. As most of the workshops are usually held for children, they were pretty surprised by our request but eventually, our group was accepted. We ended up exploring the process of casting and each of us created their gears with a sun face on it.

In Orbit Art Installation

In Dusseldorf's K21 Museum, the Argentinian artist Tomás Saraceno built an orbit-like art installation. The steel mesh was suspended at a height of 25 m above the museum’s entrance hall and visitors could explore an area of 2500 m². Visiting the In Orbit installation gave us an extraordinary experience of walking in a sea of clouds and orbs. As the whole installation was dynamic and transparent, we interacted through our movements and glimpses with other visitors on the mesh and the ones who had just entered the museum’s foyer below us.

Castle Martinfeld

The Middle Ages bequeathed many castles and fortresses to Central Germany. Nowadays many of them are open for day visitors, and amazingly enough, some of the historic sites are even open as vacation rentals. Staying at these extraordinary places for a few days provides an opportunity to spend time doing creative and unusual activities. During our stay at the castle Martinfeld, we made crowns, bought soft swords and reinterpreted the site’s history with our own role-play games and songs.

Cycling Holiday in the Netherlands

As the Netherlands is famous for cycling, we decided that it might be a good fit to visit the country for a cycling holiday. Indeed, it turned out that with our rented bikes, we were able to effortlessly travel between as well as within the cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Leiden, and Den Haag. In addition to the excellent cycling infrastructure, we explored the country’s famous canal systems, art museums, cuisine, mills, and landscapes.

Fortress Lohra

Our stay at the fortress Lohra represented a true visit to the former times; we were expected to heat and cook with wood stoves, live in the shelter of donkey drivers and cope with the freezing cold of the winter without heating. As no one else would come up with the glorious idea to visit this site in winters, we had the whole area to ourselves which was also got a little spooky from time to time.

Camping Weekend—Digital Detox Edition

In our fast-paced world, we tend to unlearn in our daily lives how to spend time in less productive ways. Often this change in attitude occurs only when we find ourselves in less-stimulating environments. On this autumn weekend we decided to leave the big-city life as well as our technological gadgets behind for a few days and spend time at a camping site close to the Silver Lakes in North Rhine-Westphalia.
